Fingal moves to stop pollution in Tolka River
Pollution in Tolka River at Mill Road Bridge over the summer
Earlier in the Summer, I contacted Fingal County Council after pollution entered the river just below the Mill Road Bridge, beside Connolly Hospital. The pollution caused a grey/white scum on the river and a bad smell.
Fingal followed up by undertaking a camera survey of the surface water drainage pipe system. This led to the identification of an issue in the Coolmine Industrial Estate where they found evidence of a discharge of food grease from a spillage into the line.
Fingal have since informed me that the source of this discharge was identified, the owners of the premises was notified. There was an immediate clean up by the owner of the premises.
I welcome Fingal’s quick action in addressing this issue. I hope that the steps it has taken will mean this pollution won’t be discharged into the Tolka at this location again.
